How do I Gain Weight and Keep It On?
Here’s a fact that fitness influencers don't want to tell you: You don’t need to drink sketchy "mass gainer" shakes or force-feed yourself until you feel sick to put on size!
It all comes down to one fundamental factor:
A Calorie surplus!
At its simplest, a calorie surplus is when you consume more calories than your body burns over a period of time.
When this happens, your body has more energy than it needs for basic survival and daily activities. Instead of burning through its reserves, it is forced to store this extra energy, using it to build new tissue—whether that's lean muscle if you are strength training or fat when no activity is involved. This is the fundamental, biological mechanism behind weight gain.
The three macros are that provide calories: Protein, Carbs, and Fats. That is the rabbit hole I want you to go down.
You'll need carbohydrates to fuel your workouts. Everyone and their grandparents are focused on protein right now, but do not neglect the carbs! They will power you through your reps and provide the necessary energy to continue activities throughout the day.
2 big Takeaways:
Consume more calories than you burn.
Remember to put carbs on your plate.
